Defence Walking

The tourism industry in Sebastia functions in two ways, the grassroot organizing run by the Palestinian residents of Sebastia, and the settler organized religious tours that are funded and run by Zionist organizations. The establishment of Israeli settlements in area C, such as Shavei Shomron, strengthened Israel's ties to the ancient city by organizing tours and teaching children about the singular narrative of ancient Israeli while omitting other narratives from their teachings. Israel designated the ancient city in area C as Sebastia National Park, a form of land occupation.

The tourist route strengthens the connection of the Palestinians to the land and the city, which is one of ways for protecting Sebastia and resisting settlers . They can walk to strengthen the connection between villages and communities, and even transport goods (ceramic, olive oil soap and mosaic) from one village to another to sell. These approaches can permeate the tourism industry, developing business and cultural education alongside the tourism industry.

The model consists of two parts, the lower part is the body of the model of Sebastia and the upper part is the basic information of the map engraved on acrylic panels.

The wood and white terracotta represent the topography of Sebastia and form the basis of the entire model; the objects made of brown clay are simplified representations of local tourist attractions and are close in colour and texture to the local pottery. Three boundaries are represented by metallic wire, linen thread and red tape: the Shavei Shomron, the ancient walls of Sebastia and the tourist route. The metal wire is like the invisible wall of Shavei Shomron, aggressive in the land; the ancient city wall is faded into the site by the white linen thread; the walking route is represented by the red tape, very distinct throughout the model, which connects the various sites, including historical sites, monuments and workshops.
